Ilgen: Founder
President, Chief Scientist
Marc
Ilgen founded West of Pluto Software in October, 2001. Prior to
this, he spent 8 years as Director of Exploratory Research and Development
at HNC Software, where he led Government funded research efforts
in intelligent information and retrieval, image understanding, intelligent
agents, bioinformatics, and pattern recognition. He joined HNC after
spending 8 years in the aerospace industry (TRW and The Aerospace
Corporation) where he designed guidance and control systems for
a variety of air and space vehicles. In 1993 he was a lecturer at
UCLA, where he taught Orbital Mechanics and Astronautics. He holds
a B.S. in Physics (Haverford, 1983), an M.S. in Nuclear Engineering
(UCLA, 1986) and a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering (UCLA, 1992).
